So I have been trying to navigate my way through the world of AFOL- it's a bit overwhelming...I am not sure where to start or where I fit in...I have a small personal Lego collection I started a year ago that I display on the bookshelf in my craft room. My collection is based on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter consists of a modified Hogwarts, modified Burrow, modified Medieval Market Village, Knight Bus and Diagon Alley. I just purchased several sets to put aside for my Christmas gifts- The Hogwarts Express, Hagrid's Hut and Quidditch Match- the latter 2 I also plan to modify to increase their size and level of detail. Of course there are other HP sets, animals and minifigs I would love to add, but they are too pricey for my small budget, maybe I can add some of them in the future. For now my focus is to enhance and elaborate on the pieces I do have as well as add a MOC forbidden forest, MOC shops to Diagon Alley and MOC classrooms to Hogwarts. My son has a large Lego collection which includes my husband's collection from childhood. I can use some of those- though he'd like to trade for new sets, which I don't mind, but my husband thinks he has too many Lego already lol I have also been looking into my options for buying individual pieces, since I could place a small order within my budget each month.
Is there a specific online community I would fit into better, as beginner with a small narrow themed display collection? Do people share pics of modified sets or just MOCs?
Is the anywhere to find home display ideas? I was thinking of placing some of the buildings on Lazy Susan's so you could just spin them to see the interiors, but would love to see how others display their sets.
Where can I find help, ideas and/or tips for building trees and store fronts?
Is there anywhere to get custom decals and are they expensive? I would like to add shop signs to the the medieval village buildings I modified and the MOCs I am planning.
