International Trading Questions

For those with experience of posting and receiving lego abroad in trades, can you answer these questions.

First specifically:

Receiving
You are UK based. Sender is US based (i.e. Non-EU)

1) When receiving a trade (not a purchase) into the UK from the US, have you been hit by a VAT bill, Customs Duty charge, and/or Handling fee?

If so, how much, and what was the item/value that triggered it?

If not, are trades sent as 'gift' on the declaration form exempt from these charges, or was it just because the 'value' was below an x amount?

Actual experience only, please.

Sending
2) UK to US. Royal Mail Airmail, yes or no. Or is 'Airsure' better. Who do you use?

3) Customs Declaration form. (CN22) What do you use as your 'description' for lego sets and sealed minifigures.

4) How do you work out 'value' on a set/figures that are retired (remember, this is a trade, not a sale). Would value be 'zero' on a trade? Do you agree the same 'nominal' value between yourselves, if actual values are different?

5) While i'm at it, what does a sealed CMF weigh for purpose of CN22? It's going to be tiny, like 0.000something...)

Useful tips appreciated if i missed something (apologies if these are stupid questions). Feel free to ask your own.
