A (relatively) cheap way to create roads

So I stopped by the pick a brick wall with the intention of creating roads for my city. I bought a small bucket of some pieces to test with and I think I came up with a pretty good method.
I managed to create this strip of road about 60 studs long by 10 studs wide for the $8.99 price tag of the small bucket. 2x2 grey and yellow SNOT plates sitting on top of 4x4 and 2x1 brown plates.
What do you think? Any suggestions?
